Ran Out of Ramadan Stock Mid-Season? Don’t Let It Happen in 2027.
It’s the twelfth night of Ramadan. Your best seller is gone, the shelf sits bare at the busiest hour of the year, and a customer who arrived ready to spend walks out and heads to the store next door. Your reorder is on its way, but it will land after Eid.
If that sounds familiar, this one is for you. Here’s why it happens, what it costs, and how to make sure 2027 plays out differently.
Ramadan demand doesn’t follow your calendar
The month itself shifts. Ramadan 2027 is expected to begin around February 8 or 9, roughly ten days earlier than in 2026, with Eid around March 9 or 10. Pakistan’s official dates depend on moon sighting.
Demand is less predictable still. A product can sit quietly for two weeks, then sell out in three days because of a trend, a viral post, or last-minute Eid gifting. Forecasts help, but they never settle the question.
What a Stockout Really Costs
- The sale. Ramadan shoppers buy for a specific moment, and that moment passes.
- The customer. Someone who finds what they need elsewhere may keep going back there.
- The reorder. Stock that arrives after Eid becomes leftover inventory instead of revenue.
The 2027 clock is already running
Here’s what many importers overlook. Chinese New Year falls on February 6, 2027, right before Ramadan begins. Factories commonly close for weeks around the holiday and take time to return to full speed, so sourcing guides advise confirming first-quarter orders by late November or early December 2026.
Do this now: Ask every supplier for their last production day, restart date and earliest ship date. Get it in writing.
Air freight is how you react to demand
Think of your supply in two layers. Sea freight carries your base stock, ordered early. Air freight is your reserve, the move you make when a product starts selling faster than planned.
Sea shipments can mean weeks of waiting, and Karachi’s container terminals dealt with congestion as recently as July 2026. Air cargo moves through airport cargo terminals instead, though customs rules and document checks still apply.
The smarter question isn’t “what does air freight cost per kilogram?” It’s “what does an empty shelf cost me?” Freight is one line in your landed cost. A missed Ramadan sale takes the whole margin with it. For compact, fast-selling products, freight per unit can be a small slice of the selling price, and the math is worth running before the season starts.
Before then, settle four things:
- Your top sellers and their margins
- The sell-through level that triggers a reorder
- Whether your supplier can ship repeat orders quickly
- A freight quote for those products, so you know your per-unit cost in advance
